Review: Town Branch

Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company is a very young distillery. The Lexington Brewing Company was acquired in 1999 by Pearse Lyons. They didn’t start distilling until 2008 when they purchased pot stills from Scotland. After four years of aging, the company started bottling and selling Town Branch.

The distillery houses production for Alltech’s four spirits: Town Branch Bourbon, Pearse Lyons Reserve (a single malt whiskey), Town Branch Rye Whiskey, and Bluegrass Sundown (a bourbon-infused coffee drink). More recently (February 2015) they put out very limited Single Barrel that’s only availible at the distillery.

Nose: Very light nose, tiny bit of ethanol, with hints of vanilla, oak, and maraschino cherry.

Taste: Oaky, slightly bitter almond favor, maybe hints of slightly dark chocolate.

Finish: Little bit of clean heat to the finish that doesn’t linger about for too long.

Overall: My tastes have changed a lot over a year of tasting, buying, and now reviewing. In the beginning, I loved this Bourbon. And, I still have a soft spot in my heart for it. Despite that, I think it’s time to say goodbye. Sorry, Town Branch, it’s time to part ways… It’s not you its DEFINITELTY me. Unless, I’m craving something crazy light. (You can be my back burner Bourbon.)

But, in all seriousness, if you are a lighter Bourbon drinker you definitely need to check this one out. It’s got some pretty decent stuff going on if that’s your style of sipping.  To each their own! Cheers.
