Review: Roughtail Adaptation IPA (Batch #3, January 2016)

Oh sweet baby Jesus yes, it’s time for a new Adaptation release from Roughtail. I won’t go into all the details of why I’m super excited for this, just read this, then read the review thing, then go buy and drink this beer.

Company: Roughtail Brewing Co.

Location: Midwest City, OK

ABV: 7%

IBUs: 65

Style/Description: East Coast India Pale Ale

Price: $16 (4-pack, 16oz cans)

Appearance: Hazy gold with a fluffy white head that slowly subsided leaving great, sticky lacing.

Nose: Super juicy and resinous with sweet grapefruit, mandarin orange, pineapple and mango. It’s like a delicious fruit cup but it’s beer! The tone of all the citrus is great too, not thin and harsh but mellow and smooth. Shit yeah.

Taste: Oh sweet lord the balance is amazing. Huge, bright citrus is paired with a nice malty foundation. The Citra and Mosaic seem to be doing some real work here with that mandarin orange, mango, pineapple and citrus but that Simcoe is definitely bringing in some light pine and just a touch of bitterness.

Finish: Guess what, more balance. All the tropical fruit flavors fade away with the piney qualities coming out a bit more leaving a super refreshing and somewhat dry finish.

Overall: Alright listen, I understand I said things like “fruit cocktail” and “shit yeah” during this review, but I don’t even care, this beer is fucking good. I tried to keep this review a short one so you would finish reading it as soon as possible so you can go out and find a can of this. I bought 8 today. What are you still doing here, go out in the world and find this stuff! Go! Don’t think! Go!

Rating: 4.5/5
