Review: Roughtail Brewing Company Session IPA

When visiting Roughtail for 424 Day last week I realized that I have managed to miss trying their Session IPA, a 3.2% offering only available at the brewery. I filled up a growler for the review at home.

Company: Roughtail Brewing Co.

Location: Midwest City, OK

ABV: 4.0%

Style/Description: Session India Pale Ale

Price: $6.00 per 32 oz growler fill

Appearance: Pours a mostly clear light copper, with a bit of head and very little lacing.

Nose: Mild hop aroma, some spicy grassy notes though mostly sweet fruity ones. Orange and pineapple.

Taste: Roughtail loves their citrus IPAs, and their table IPA is no exception. Oranges and grapefruit, with some tropical mango and pineapple in the mix. Light grass and pine notes. Thin body as expected from a session IPA, drinkable, enjoyable and definitely crushable. A great one to fill up one of Roughtail’s affordable growlers.

Finish: Crisp and dry finish, finishes mostly clean with a bit of citrus peel clinging to the palate.

Overall: Tasty little session brew here. I love a good 4% IPA option for many occasions like softball, picnics, football games or like me, watching Zombi 2 on a Tuesday night. Definitely worth a growler fill and I’ll be keeping this one in the rotation at my house.
