Review: Elk Valley Le Ferme Farmhouse Ale

Attractively packaged in a 500 ml bottle, I was interested in seeing what Elk Valley would do with a Bretted farmhouse. Turned out to be a perfect beer to drink during an OU game as we say adios to summer.

Company: OKCITY Brewing Company

Location: Oklahoma City, OK

ABV: 6.2%

Style/Description: Saison

Price: $7 (500 ml)

Appearance: Pours a cloudy copper gold, nice fluffy head and light lace.

Nose: Aromas of tart citrus peel, light Brett funk and some earthy grassy notes.

Taste: Fruit citrus flavors are out in front, orange and lemon zest with tart grapefruit. Moderate gripping Brett flavor tartness helps to balance the sweet fruits. Some lightly grassy vegetal notes play into the overall funkiness. Light body, abundant fizzy carb, crisp and dry.

Finish: Clean crisp finish, with some residual lemony zest.

Overall: A solid light saison from Elk Valley. Enjoyable and quaffable, with enough funkiness going on to keep it interesting. I hope that these guys continue experiments with Brett, a good first effort.

Rating: 3/5
