Russell’s Reserve: 2nd Street Single Barrel

We were lucky enough to get to help select this barrel with 2nd Street Liquor Store here in Edmond.  Dave and Jill Ogden are the owners of this store and we had a blast tasting different barrel pick options with them.  We were all in agreement the whole time during the tasting which was made the process go incredibly smoothly and left us confident we picked a winner.  This is the first barrel we’ve helped pick for a store, and we hope there will be many more in our future.

Also, there is going to be a cool little treat down the road. I’ll give you a hint, Prairie Artisan Ales as the Russell’s barrel. You’ll want to have a bottle of this on your shelf for when that goes down.

Let’s see what we chose!

Nose: Cinnamon, very vanilla-y, like vanilla extract, very oaky, caramel, anise, straw, tons of sugar

Taste: Sweet vanilla, browned butter, a bit of dark chocolate, Kris says it tastes like snow ice cream.

Finish: A bit of anise, warm finish that isn’t too hot, sticks to your tongue with heavy oak at the end.

Overall: Has a great texture, the aroma is the weakest part but overall well balanced with a great mouthfeel.  This is a pretty great Bourbon, it’s got some great strengths to it, and totally worth the price, plus we helped choose it!  So, get over to 2nd St. in Edmond, AND GO GET YOU SOME!
